Dear God -- I pray that You renew a right spirit in me. Fill me with gratitude and contentment for all that You provide for me. In Jesus' name, I pray.
Last week, after years of putting it off, I booked my appointment for gum surgery. I asked friends to pray that I would be full of peace about this operation. God answered our prayers! I walked in the clinic with no fear and sat in the chair without trembling. The operation was a great success. It took only 20-minutes for the doctor to remove a patch from the roof of my mouth and transfer to a section of my teeth that had extreme gum recession. It was painless.
However, what I was not prepared for was the pain to eat anything afterwards! I did not realize that I would only be able to suck food through a straw. For the past week, I lived on yogourt, pudding, icecream (of course!) and breakfast drinks. I was surprised how much I missed the sensation of chewing and the texture of foods. I now believe that much of my (over)eating is just to have something in my mouth. My answer to this? I plan to buy truckloads of gum to chew whenever I am feeling the urge to chew.
What ideas can you suggest to satisfy the need?
Tip #30 Optimum diet
An optimum diet takes into consideration many variables: calories, carbohydrates, protein, fats, food groups and water. When designing a diet, include all of these variables in your plan.
The LORD is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9NIV.)
In Sickness & In Health
Dear Lord -- You are the Great Physician and I pray Your healing touch on my body as I deal with sickness. In Jesus' name, I pray.
This past week, I've been dealing with the flu bug which then morphed into a cold pest. I've had a sickly stomach, dry cough, scratchy throat, and headache. However, the worst symptom is the lack of energy. It's all I can do to walk the kids to the bus stop and back. This is the time I need to choose my activities carefully. I am more focussed on what I enjoy doing to ensure that I will keep moving.
Tip #29: Include simple activities
Park your vehicle over a block away from work. Once at work, favour the stairs over the elevator. Pull out your bicycle and ride to pick up your mail. Roller-blade around the neighbourhood with the family dog. Hike through the fields and pick wild flowers to make floral arrangements for gifts. Join the children after-school for a session of jump rope skipping. Smash a birdie over the backyard badminton net.
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh (Ezekiel 36:26 NIV.)
